Reminderband is proud to support GEMS on their quest to end sex trafficking.

Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) is the only organization in New York State specifically designed to serve girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. Girls Educational and Mentoring Services’ (GEMS) mission is to empower girls and young women, ages 12–24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking to exit the commercial sex industry and develop to their full potential. GEMS is committed to ending commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of children by changing individual lives, transforming public perception, and revolutionizing the systems and policies that impact sexually exploited youth.

It is common for college students to roll out of messy twin beds and groan about class and the Ramen noodles they will probably eat that night. Before we groan we should realize that one in four girls in developing nations never gets a chance to go to school. Here at the Reminderband offices we found this astonishing and wanted to help. She’s The First is a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world, helping them be the first in their families to graduate. In the process, She’s the First fosters leadership and self-awareness in young Americans, by inspiring them to lead creative fundraisers and correspond with sponsored students. Their efforts shape a rising generation of well-educated global leaders, future philanthropists, and cross-cultural communicators.

We have sponsored She’s The First with custom wristbands to promote their Social Media Camp; TYWLS Explorers 2012. At camp they are teaching girls of NYC to use social media to spread awareness, build support and “be the first” at anything they desire!
