In addition to Autism Awareness, April is also the feature month for raising sexual abuse awareness. You may have seen the oft associated teal wristbands and awareness ribbons around the internet lately. Lots of amazing people are advocating victim support, especially during this time of year. Sexual Abuse Speak Out is one such group who is using wristbands as part of their campaign to help victims vocalize and report sexual abuse and violence. Their mission is to understand, support, and help those victims on the road to recovery.
“We raise awareness for sexual abuse/assault and our organization has a poetry slam every year for the last six years. We donate the proceeds to organizations that help survivors of sexual abuse. We have family and friends who have been abused and we wanted to bring awareness to a quietly-kept secret..sexual abuse.”
“We will use the bands to help raise money for the needs of our non-profit organization. We are having a feed the homeless drive in April and proceeds will be used towards that as well.”
