Wristbands Highlight Military Support

In America, a country that owes much of its freedom to military service members, there is no better way to honor veterans and show support than by donning silicone wristbands. Military veterans come from a number of branches, including the Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines and U.S. Coast Guard. The men and women who service in these military units risk their lives on a daily basis to protect the U.S. Constitution and those freedoms bestowed upon American civilians.

To help support U.S. troops, a number of silicone wristbands have been introduced, including:

  • “Freedom Isn’t Free” – This wristband makes Americans remember that military members sacrifice their lives to maintain U.S. freedoms.
  • “God Bless the U.S.A.” – Denoting a special place for God in the lives of our country, this custom band proudly displays red, white and blue.
  • “POW * MIA” – This sadly highlights the fact that a military member is being held as a Prisoner of War (POW) or is Missing In Action (MIA).
  • “Support Our Troops” – This comes in a variety of colors, although the most popular is yellow, as this is indicative of the yellow ribbon support that was commonly displayed during the 1990 to 1991 Gulf War or Operation Desert Storm.

Military silicone bands are a great way to honor and support troops. Rubber bracelets allow:

  • Citizens to show support for America’s troops.
  • Names and badge numbers can easily be printed on memory bands.
  • Military bands offer motivational benefits, reminding people about those sacrificing their lives for U.S. freedoms.
  • Military wristbands offer a silent, yet public, salute to U.S. soldiers.
  • Wristbands can help motivate a new generation of military service members and also allows children of service members to display pride in their parents’ military service.

Reminderband works with customers to help create unique, custom bracelets. These one-of-a-kind designs can highlight certain military branches, wars, times of conflict, those who scarified their lives for our country and much more. With excellent pricing and speedy delivery, these types of bands are great for community awareness events, especially those in military towns. Customers can view Reminderband’s unique photo gallery, which highlights their silicone bands’ quality, vivid colors and masterful graphic skills.

Lung Cancer: Not Just for Smokers

Valerie Scott’s Story: Lung Cancer, Not Just for Smokers

Valerie Scott is a non-smoker and she was diagnosed with phase 4 lung cancer. Scientists are saying radon could be the culprit.

Radon. A naturally-occurring gas that comes from the decay of uranium in soil and water. It seeps up through the ground and collects in buildings. You can’t see it, smell it or taste it so it’s impossible to know it’s there until you test for it.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates it kills at least 20,000 people every year. That makes it the second leading cause of lung cancer after cigarettes — more dangerous than second-hand smoke. – Mike Headrick and Linda Williams. (KSL)

We have been touched by the honest story of a vibrant grandma longing to see her grandson grow up. We created glow-in-the-dark, leopard-printed wristbands and cancer bracelets that read “Lick it! Lung Cancer”, with hope that her family, friends and acquaintances will always be reminded of the battle Valerie is fighting.

Wristbands: A Brief History

The first silicone wristbands that were introduced to America were in 2004 and were the distinct yellow “Livestrong” rubber wristbands that were a global symbol for defeating cancer and essentially, living strong. Since that time, silicone bracelets have become a favorite among kids, teens, young adults and adults worldwide. Why has this phenomenon become so popular?

  • These bracelets are made from natural silicone rubber. They are elastic, not easily broken, are not susceptible to high temperatures and have an easy wear-ability factor.
  • Awareness bracelets are unscented and virtually harmless. Silicone is known as being environmentally friendly, making it an excellent choice for people in today’s environmentally conscious world.
  • Silicone wristbands are often associated with promotional activities, organized events, music concerts and sports. In fact, as a blank canvas, promotional band wristbands can convey a number of meanings, pledges, saying and mottos.
  • Many corporate conglomerates have used silicone wristbands to advertise products. This includes McDonalds, Puma and even Nike.
  • As wristbands are fashionable but inexpensive, it makes them extremely cost-efficient to mass-produce. This is why these types of advertising mediums are such an excellent option for non-profit organizations looking for fun fundraising tools.

While silicone wristbands have developed into modernized jewelry that offers an ideal vessel for advertising, bracelets dates back to 5,000 B.C. Egyptians made bracelets from stones, bones and woods and they often served spiritual and religious interests. The traditional scarab bracelet was the most popular, representing regeneration and rebirth. In fact, Russian archaeologists found several artifacts, including a bracelet, and when carbon tested dated to 40,000 B.P.

Eventually bracelets evolved into using whatever materials and metals were convenient, including weaving string together to form bracelets, which was a common tradition in Bulgaria and Greece. In India, the number of bracelet bangles often denotes a woman’s martial status and in Latin America, the traditional Azabache Bracelets are worn to offer protection against the evil eye.

There are a number of bracelet styles, including charm bracelets, bangles, slap bracelets, beaded bracelets, link bracelets, alternative health bracelets and sports bracelets. The latter is most often associated with silicone wristbands.

Reminderband offers a wide variety of colorful customized wristbands, perfect for companies, organizations, school, non-profit organizations, cancer bracelets, daycares, fundraisers and awareness causes.

Celebrating Friendship

Annual Friendship Day is the first Sunday in August and serves to celebrate the treasures of friendship. Typically, this involves small gift exchanges and pleasant greetings thanking people for being good friends. But why wait until August to celebrate friendship? Reminderband offers some great ideas to celebrate friendship this month, which coincides with Valentine’s Day.

  • Friendship Bracelets – In the 1980s and 1990s, teenagers would often make colorful friendship bracelets using embroidery threads. Today, this has been replaced with silicone wristbands, which offers a perfect medium for conveying heart-felt messages. These silicone bracelets can be dressed up for everyday wear and trendy, fun occasions.
  • Notes and Messages – Passing along a simple “thanks” for friendship doesn’t have to be complicated. People can consider the following means of offering sincere, heartfelt support and thanks.
    • FaceBook is a great way to reach out to friends. Consider posting a classic photograph or video link to a favorite song to cheer up a friend.
    • Twitter offers the ability for short messages, so tweeting a brief message thanking someone for being a great friend, is an excellent idea.
    • Old-fashioned letters are always appreciated so buying a cute card of thanks and best wishes is a great way to express gratitude. Consider writing moving, yet brief thanks that includes “You’re such a great friend,” “I appreciate you,” or “Our talks are the highlight of my week!”
    • Consider putting special memories in a small mason jar so a friend can pull out one a week, offering lasting memories all year long.
  • Small Gifts – Gifts don’t need to be expensive to make a lasting memory. A small, thoughtful gift makes a bigger impact than one that is pricey. Some excellent ideas include:
    • Frame a picture of the two of you that a friend can keep on his/her desk as a memento.
    • Memory journals are a great way to document favorite memories and silly moments.
    • If a friend has a favorite cookie, candy or treat, wrap it in tissue paper and either mail it to him/her or deliver it in person.
  • Spending Time Together – There is no substitute for spending quality time together – away from texts, emails and social media – as this is a great way to catch up one-on-one. Whether it’s going to a coffee shop, an afternoon of shopping or going on a skydiving adventure, this is a great way to bond.
  • Spirit of Friendship – Keeping the spirit of friendship throughout the year is important. Nurturing friends, quickly resolving any potential conflicts and spending time together helps facilitate a happy, healthy life.
Who's Wearing Wristbands?

Society Embraces Promotional Wristbands

Today’s modern advertising silicone bracelet vessel began with the Lance Armstrong Foundation raising cancer survivor awareness by selling yellow silicone wristbands in 2004. Selling for $1 each, this promotional campaign generated $80 million in donations. The advantage of this campaign was touching a wide demographic, including breaking age barriers, income groups, cultures and geographies – ultimately reaching people everywhere.

In essence, this successful cancer awareness campaign has been emulated, copied and praised, ultimately helping raise awareness for other causes, events, organizations, businesses, etc.

While the idea of advertising on bracelets was not new with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, it was popular in the flower power 1970’s era where people wore metal wristbands to remember those Americans who were imprisoned in Southeast Asia, due to America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.

Now wristbands have become a common, inexpensive advertising medium, helping promote concepts, including Christianity, animal welfare, support for military troops, disaster relief efforts, college sports teams, anti-hunger campaigns, disease awareness, anti-racism measures and anti-bullying.

In fact, many high schools and churches utilize silicone bands as colorful fashion accessories to advertise friendship and school spirit. With America’s economy decreasing, more awareness campaigns are centered on public consciousness. In fact, this was evident with the “Occupy Wall Street Movement,” as eBay offers a minimum of six different colors of personalized silicone bracelets that support this cause.

Additionally, experts agree that custom silicone bracelets are not simply a fad, but have made their mark on society, both in America and globally. When comedians, such as Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert, begin to mock this successful advertising phenomenon, it’s confirmation that it’s made it mark on the public. In 2007, Colbert attempted to sell “WristStrong” bands, helping raise awareness for what he termed the, “Epidemic of wrist violence,” in response to him breaking his wrist. It was all in good fun, as Colbert reportedly donated all the proceeds from his hotly debated bracelet to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which helps offer support for injured military service members.

Other successful promotional wristband campaigns have included the American Heart Association using a red-dress logo and its “Go Red for Women” campaign, in addition to the Susan G. Komen pink ribbon for breast cancer support.

Silicone wristbands and cancer bracelets are a part of our society and culture and have become synonymous with supporting causes, raising awareness and offering support for those in need. Reminderband works with customers to create unique silicone bands, including customizing colors and messages.

Silicone Wristbands in Government and Politics

Silicone wristbands are used for a wide variety of purposes. In addition to serving personal, business, or charity functions, wristbands are also used by government personnel for government-related projects, causes, or concerns.

Custom bands are used by government officials to support community programs sponsored by state, regional, or federal government. Examples of this can include youth outreach programs such as runaway or homeless youth intervention programs or programs that address issues such as substance abuse, domestic violence, or access to health and disease prevention. The wristbands can be used to inspire members of outreach programs and community members in order to both raise awareness and encourage a sense of self-empowerment among those affected by difficult conditions.

Other government uses of wristbands might include military or veteran support or support for various issues concerning the military; wristbands could also be used to support public service teams such as the police department, or firefighters.

Wristbands are also often used to make political statements. Politicians may use wristbands to assert the causes they support within the government they serve. This can include a bill that is being debated or a policy that is already signed into law and being lobbied.

Everyday citizens can also make powerful political statements. In this case, wearing silicone bands with a political message is a way of asserting what your position is on a controversial issue – similar to the classic bumper sticker or car window decal. Wristbands can be used as part of voting campaigns or other campaigns. Political wristbands can also serve to create dialogue around an issue.

Reminderband has many options for customizing your versatile silicone wristbands to serve your political campaign or youth program. Just give us a call or check out the order form on our website.
